I started a blog with my second graders. I hope it gets more action than this blog. :)

Event Planner

There is a new tool that Robert has created that we can use for ITP Follow-ups especially and maybe even summer. We can talk about it at our next meeting.

Meaning of life

Hmmm, well this doesn't seem to be something for which we yet have a purpose. What do you all think?

Laptops

Laptops for students is not funded in the Tech Levy - sadly there are not enough resources at this point for laptops for all teachers either. The technical support issues are significant, particularly when a district provides the laptops for kids. I did research on this subject for a research paper and it was pretty mind-boggling. There are several newer reports out on districts that have supplied laptops for kids with some interesting results. 1:1 computing does not make a significant difference unless there is true integration with the curriculum and the students truly use the laptops for learning. Makes sense, I know, but one idea was that if the laptops were provided for kids that would improve student learning all by itself. The research says that's not the case. Also kids tend to do things with the laptops that interfere with and/or impact their operation for learning. :-) There are many students who have brought their own laptops to school which is great - the limitation is that they can't use them on the network as there is no assurance they are virus/cracker software/worm free.

ITP Choices

We'll see if it is useful. BTW, this Friday is a holiday so we won't have a meeting of course.

I am working with budget numbers so would appreciate suggestions for possible option packages for ITP participants. I think we've settled on the ACTIVboard and tablet for the refresher group but still need to come up with the A-B-C for the other three groups.

Do you need any information from me or do you already have options in your heads?
This is neat.

Thanks Robert!

Issaquah Tech Project: Greetings

This sounds like a great idea. I have never blogged before so I have no idea if I hit the correct button or not. For all I know, I may be sending a message to the wrong place. Is this totally public or is it only viewable by the people we invite?

Leslie

Greetings

Hi Eric and Leslie,

I thought it might be useful to have a blog for our current cadre of ITP teachers, or at least to explore the idea for this coming summer. This is a free service that we can try and it might even be useful for us, but I guess we'll see. I've also asked Robert to check out wiki software to see if it could run on our webserver. It would certainly make collaboration on documents easier.

I'm still playing with this so let me know what you think.
